Hey guys (gals)! It’s that time of year again. Time to get out the stretchy pants and ugly sweaters… Time to call that friend/family member that you haven’t spoken to since the last holiday season, and finally, time to give back to the community that helped raise us, keep us safe, and the place we still call home.
It’s pretty amazing if you think about it. This will be our 4th annual DBS fundraiser! FOURTH!!! that means that (already) we have raised over $4,500.00. We have also given so much of our time and love to people in the community that we did not know. I think this speaks volumes about the kind of brotherhood/sisterhood that we are.
Just think about it for a second… Now that a majority of you are parents, you now know what it means to have unconditional love for someone that’s entire life depends on you… you have had the same struggles and self doubt about raising your child as I have. You have all worried, stayed up late, wondering if your baby/child/teenager will be okay because of… “fill in the blank.”
Now imagine that the year has knocked you down. You are struggling to make ends meet and the holidays roll around. Would the Christmas holiday be such a happy time for you? When you know that you can’t even afford that bottle of detergent, let alone worry about what your 5 year old wants for Christmas.
I just can’t stand around and do nothing… and although in the grand scheme of things, this may not make a huge difference… I know that If i had these same struggles and there was a community that cared… these small gestures of kindness would mean the world to me. Maybe for a day forget about the struggles and have a day where I could have some peace of mind.
