Nayah scores!!!

Nayah scores her first goal in Soccer. Up till now she has shown tremendous promise as a Goalie. Last year she blocked 6 goals in 1 game (let 1 get through). This year she is becoming very aggressive and she can steal and dribble the ball down the field at will. She has some issues scoring at the end, but she did it here… YAY!!!

All That Jazz

DJ Cheapshot has released a new mixtape entitled Jazzercidal Tendencies sponsored by the fashionable peeps True Love False Idols. The new mix includes all the signature DJ Cheapshot wordplay, along with the very best of dance-floor mash. Cheap went into another direction with this particular tape, sticking mostly with rocking electro beats over Megadudical-like remixes. He also attempts to throw in a bit of 60s classics and succeeds tremendously. This mix is hard to find and available for a limited time so make sure you cop one by myspacing his ass at myspace.com/djcheapshot.

Q. So how did you get into producing?

A. It started in high school in 1993, I had been DJing for 3 years at that point. My older brother gave me his four track so I could make mix-tapes, but one day I stole all my dad’s jazz records and started scratching dope breaks over Cameron Paul loops on the 2nd and 3rd tracks…then I was like “Woopie!”…cause it gave me a slight idea how hip-hop was made…and it slowly progressed into me figuring out that there was a thing called a sampler.

Q. Who were some of your Hip Hop influences?

A. Some People who have influenced me in hip-hop are my father (for all the jazz records), Takbir from Styles of Beyond (for making me realize it’s possible), Bilal Bashir (for teaching me how to use the SP1200), Premier, Pete Rock, Lords of the Underground, Digable Planets, Marley Marl, and Zack from Saved by the Bell.

Q. How did you hook up with Styles of Beyond?

A. It stearted in ’94. I met Tak through a mutual friend who was on my football team (i like saying that part cause it makes me sound tough – even though I was the mascot!) and one day he came over my place and started rapping over my 4-track beats. We made like 3 or 4 songs in my living room…you could hear my parents in the background and shit!!! It’s hilarious now, but back then they were dope songs. We started doing talent shows and stuff, but then in ’95 I had to go away to college. It was real hard to hook up with Tak for a whi;le, so he linked up with Vin Skully and Ryu. They started recording a demo and the shit was like the dopest music I had ever heard. I started getting jealous, so I let school slide a little bit and tried my damnedest to make it happen. Just in time for the album I submitted “Easy back it up”. And that’s how it all started.

Q. Are you doing anything for there new album?

A. The next album, since I’m done with school and everything, I will definately play a bigger role. I will be cutting on a few songs and producing about 4 cuts along with Divine Styler, Vin Skully, and Bilal Bashir.

Q. What type of equipment do you work with?

A. Until about a month ago, I only used the SP-1200; however, I just got an MPC2000XL. That’s it…no keyboards, no mixing boards, no effects, just the samplers and turntables. I’m not saying it to be “real”, I’m saying it because I don’t have any money cause I spend it all on heroin.

Q. Are there any other artists that your currently working with?

A. Yep…I also am working with Mykill Miers (who’s album droped March 14th), Emanon, Jizzm, E-Rule, Born Allah, Lexicon, and hopefully if my arch nemesis DJ Fisher hooks it up – MF Grimm, MF Doom, Kurious Jorge, LOD, and Gerardo.

Q. You were part of Rocketship Records right?

A. That is correct.

Q. What were some of the releases from that label?>

A. In chronological order : Blastoff Compilation Vol I – featuring Zion I, Emanon, and Eclipse 427. Cheapshot’s Sucka Breaks, Emanon – “P.S.I./Outside Looking In”, Blastoff II – feat Mykill Myers, Mic.edu, Jizzm, and Emanon. Atomic Zen feat Styles of Beyond and Emanon.

Q. Now you have your own label?

A. Yep, It’s called Spy Tech Records

Q. Who are some of the artists on the new label?

A. I pretty much carried everybody over from rocketship. Spy Tech includes Emanon, Lexicon, Styles of Beyond, 4-Zone, Jern, E-Rule, Born Allah, and Diverse.

Q. What is the first scheduled release from the label?

A. The first scheduled release is April 5th. It is a colaborational record between Tak from Styles of Beyond and my man 4-Zone. It features a song they did together and then one solo song from both MC’s.

Q. So what would you do if you weren’t a producer/dj for a living?

A. Probably a chip n’ dales dancer who dresses up like a construction worker.

Q. What are your thoughts on the current state of Hip Hop?

A. Same as it’s been for years now. I hate most of it, but like a tiny bit of it. The mainstream is just so flooded with junk it makes me reach for the Pepto Bismol! At the same time, the more crap there is, the more I appreciate the good stuff. It also makes me work harder at trying to conquer the world with MY music.

Q. Do you have a website?

A. Yep, it’s Spy Tech Records

Q. So who are you feelin in Hip Hop right now?

A. Very little of it, but mainly NO ONE!

Q. Aight, any final comments or shout outs?

A. Let me say howdy to my friends Styles of Beyond, Emanon, Lexicon, Jern, Convex, Dream Sequence, MyKill Miers, Diverse, E-Rule, Born Allah, BAT Management – 3H, Evan Bogart, Justin Trugman, Eclipse 427 – Soundbreak.com, DJ Vice, Splice, Jester, the Rice Girls, my brothers Jordan and Phil, and DJ Fisher.
